Hackers Release 13,000 More Passwords and Credit Card Numbers

Last week, a group of hackers, believed to be affiliated with Anonymous, released another 13,000 passwords, credit card numbers, and expiration dates from companies like Amazon, Walmart, Dell, Hulu Plus, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. A comprehensive list of the hacked sites is available here.

This breach comes shortly after a hack on the Xbox Live and PlayStation networks by a group known as Lizard Squad. That hack interrupted game play for an estimated 158 million subscribers of these networks.

Lizard Squad also released a copy of the already-controversial movie The Interview for download through a popular pirating site. The movie, themed around the idea of American TV hosts killing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has been the source of great tension between North Korea and the United States. The recent Sony hack involved a premature release of several highly-anticipated box-office hits.

13,000 accounts is a small number compared to the 40 million cards involved with the Target data breach in late 2013, but it is still enough reason to be precautious. As always, monitor your credit card accounts on a regular basis, and report any unauthorized charges as soon as they appear.
